About Us

From Humble Beginnings

Your friend on the loo, since Fifty Two.

Since 1952, Sorbent has always been providing Australians with wide range of tissue products. We are committed to providing quality tissue products that are gentle on your skin and kind to the environment.

Through cooperation and collaboration, we can deliver Australian's favourite down under dunny rolls despite the magnitude of any external challenges. As a result, Sorbent has maintained its retail market share over the past few years. This fact is greatly helped by the number of retailers we serve who are long-standing clients of Sorbent, meaning most of our customer relationships are built on a solid foundation of trust.

01

Always Soft, Always Strong

Since our establishment in 1952, Sorbent has set out to fulfill customers' toilet roll needs. The 'Gentlest Tissue' jingle was our first classic, and memorable advertisement aired in 1956. It was the beginning of our softness becoming familiar among Australians. In 1990, we introduced our new product category, facial and towel. Product innovations have been the most critical aspects of our success as a company.

02

Our Favourite Down Under

Until today, we constantly met our beloved customers' needs improving the softness and thickness of our tissue rolls. To demonstrate our product’s quality, we created the ‘Our Favourite Down Under’ campaign in 2019, which captures the perfect toilet experience at home with a roll of Sorbent.

03

Through Thick and Thin

In 2020, our business had experienced challenges from raw materials, labour, and truck shortages due to the panic buying during COVID-19 pandemic. However, we dedicate to provide Australians with their toilet rolls needs despite any external challenges. This event led us to create our latest campaign, #SorbentAlwaysThere as a form of dedication of us to never cease to roll for Australia.

Announcement

Sorbent and Solaris has commenced a restructuring exercise for the operations at Box Hill in Victoria. Under the restructuring, manufacturing of certain products would be moved offshore while both manufacturing units in Boxhill and Graystanes would continue to operate with right sizing. This move was necessitated by the challenging macro-economic environment, including unsustainable energy costs, among others.

Regrettably, this would result in some jobs being cut at the mills. To ensure that affected staff would have a smooth transition to their future endeavours, we have duly engaged with CFMEU Manufacturing Division.

On 2 August, the union had sent us a memorandum reflecting the appreciation of our commitment to working with the union to navigate this challenging process and ensure the best outcome for the impacted staff. In the same memorandum, the union had outlined a set of recommendations of the process, to which we have responded on 8 August. Under the Memorandum, amongst others we have agreed to a well-compensated redundancy as well as mobilising a Worker Assistance Program.

Both mills will remain in operation and we are confident that with the Union’s assistance, we are able to provide the necessary support and assistance to the impacted workers.
